On the morning of March 30, 2020, a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Comprehensive Old Village Renovation Project of the Hengtan Village Hexi Economic Society” was held in Hengtan Village, Huadu District. The event was attended by Yao Hanzhong, deputy director of the Huadu District Government; Wu Zifeng, deputy director of the Office of the Huadu District Government; Wu Meng, director of the Huadu District Housing and Rural Planning Construction Bureau; Zhao Chaowen, director of the Huadu District Xinhua Street Office; Wu Shibo, CPC Committee secretary of Hengtan Village; Cheng Xiuzhong, vice president of Times China Group and general manager of Guangzhou Branch (North); and other officials and representatives from Huadu District Housing and Rural Planning Construction Bureau, Huadu District Xinhua Street and Hengtan Village.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has not yet come to an end, protective measures were strictly implemented. For the assurance of health and safety, temperature-detection and disinfection measures were employed at the site. Additionally, each seat was equipped with anti-epidemic items such as hand sanitizer and sterilized wet tissues.

A lion dance was performed to convey the wish for blessings. Afterward, Cheng Xiuzhong, vice president of Times China Group and general manager of Guangzhou Branch (North), Zhao Chaowen, director of the Xinhua Street Office, and Yao Hanzhong, deputy director of the Huadu District Government, gave speeches. They expressed hope that the Hengtan Village renovation project would launch smoothly and be concluded efficiently.

Subsequent to the speeches by the three leaders, the presenter invited the important guests to the rod-pushing ceremony on the stage. Witnessed by the guests and the villagers, the distinguished guests together pushed the rod. Amid the fluttering of colorful flags, a salvo of poppers and the roar of drums, the Hengtan Village renovation project officially began.

Huaduhu Lake Area, in which the project is situated, lies within the radius of the Huadu District Government, Airport District and Guangzhou North Railway Station. The area will be developed in a coordinated way, with the four major features of commerce, ecological housing, industrial headquarters, and culture & leisure. It aims to create a pattern of "one lake, two axes, three belts and multiple groups of communities," and accordingly Huaduhu Lake Area will become not only a “major source of oxygen” for Huadu but will also serve the new waterfront town of Huadu in the future. Under the guidance of Huadu District and its skillful authorities, the project will contribute dynamism to Guangzhou's upgraded urban market. It will bring excitement and innovation to the city.
