A “groundbreaking ceremony for comprehensive demolition work within the Gangbei Village Renovation Project” was held in Gangbei Village, Huangpu District, on the morning of May 8. Yao Jinquan, secretary of Yunpu Subdistrict CPC Committee in Huangpu District; Cheng Xiuzhong, vice president of Times China Group and general manager of the Guangzhou Branch (North); Wei Haiqing, assistant to the general manager of the Guangzhou Branch (North); and Lei Weijian, the general manager of Urban Renovation Department 1, witnessed the historic moment along with villagers and residents of Yunpu Subdistrict.<

After a simple but solemn blessing ritual, on an instruction given amid the echoing of firecrackers, several excavators were mobilized to commence the demolition work. The workers performed their tasks in accordance with the safe construction regulations and the principle of "safety first and orderly demolition."

Gangbei Village launched its renovation effort in 2018. Under the requirement of "quick agreement, quick demolition, quick approval and quick construction" jointly established by the Huangpu District CPC Committee, the Huangpu District Government and the subdistrict authority, the village achieved remarkable results within two years, represented by an overwhelming majority of villagers agreeing on renovation, 99% of villagers voting on the demolition and compensation plans, and 98% of villagers signing contracts. The Gangbei Renovation Project started the demolition work in a comprehensive manner, marking that the comprehensive renovation of Gangbei Village has officially come to the substantive stage of demolition and construction, which lays the foundation for a complete renovation of Gangbei Village.

Gangbei Village is located in the southern part of Huangpu District and adjacent to Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway. Covering an area of 16.15 hectares with 464 residential properties, the village will have seven reconstruction areas with a gross floor area of approximately 160,000 square meters and eight financing areas with a gross floor area approaching 200,000 square meters. Subsequently, Gangbei Village will focus on the construction of resettlement areas for the elderly and conduct the work related to the reconstruction areas and resettlement in the best interests of the villagers. We hope the comprehensive renovation of Gangbei Village will be accomplished as soon as possible so as to help more people experience the lifestyle they are longing for.
